This is a quiet communion anthem based on the 15th century German hymn by Johann Cruger, Schmücke dich, O liebe Seele, #462 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship. The first verse uses women’s voices quietly “oohing” the hymn tune melody over a pastoral piano accompaniment, followed by a second verse with a new text by Susan Palo Cherwien which begins: “Silence, awe, and glad surrender greet this meal of solemn splendor”. The first verse can be omitted if you need a shorter anthem for communion distribution.
